Fracture in biomimetic
layered structures
Strong substances created
in nature often take advantage of composite structures such as laminar
structures (tooth, timber, nacre etc.) where hard layers are glued together by
soft thin layers. We study fracture properties of such systems within a
continuum elastic point of view, mainly at the scaling level. We may also
present viscoelastic effects in steady crack propagation in such anistropic
materials.
